Happy Gas

Also known as ‘laughing gas’, nitrous oxide is a safe and effective sedative, to help calm the nerves of our most anxious patients. This gas is mixed with oxygen and then inhaled through a mask that we will fit over your nose to help you relax. Unlike general anaesthetic, patients remain conscious for the duration of the procedure.

We do not want to put you to sleep, but rather make you feel relaxed and calm. Under Happy Gas sedation, you will be able to hear and respond to any requests or directions the dentist may have and breathe normally through your nose. Feeling tingles in your arms and legs, or slightly light-headed is completely normal and the symptoms will wear off almost as soon as the mask is removed.
